Lesson 2: Prompting: The Skill That Changes Everything

Some people say the prompt contains 50% of the answer, but the truth is in fact, it is 100% of the answer.

The quality of your answer is hidden in the quality of your question.

The difference between “meh” and “mind-blowing” results?
It’s not the AI — it’s you.

Mastering the art of prompting turns ChatGPT from a helpful tool into a genius-level assistant.

Let’s learn how to ask like a pro — because great answers start with great questions.

There are six specific types of information that we should consider sending to ChatGPT to get more precise answers and answers that we’re looking for.

So when possible, provide ChatGPT with:

  • First: Task – Let ChatGPT know exactly what you want it to do. Whether it’s writing a story, solving a math problem, suggesting a product, making a movie list, or finding a recipe—be specific.
  • Second: Context – Explain the “why” behind your request. Giving context helps ChatGPT tailor its response to better fit your needs or situation.
  • Third: Example – Share a sample of what you’re looking for. Examples act like templates and guide ChatGPT to match your desired style or format.
  • Fourth: Persona – You can shape the voice of the response by assigning a role. Want it to sound like a cowboy, secret agent, or college professor? Just say it, and ChatGPT will adapt.
  • Fifth: Format – Tell ChatGPT how you want the answer delivered: a list, a paragraph, a table, a script, an outline—whatever suits your purpose.
  • Sixth: Tone – Set the mood. Whether you want the reply to be fun, formal, casual, or serious, specifying the tone makes a big difference.

When you combine these elements, ChatGPT becomes a powerful assistant for coding, writing, brainstorming, learning languages, building business plans, planning trips, and so much more.
